Blog Assignment #1 - Image 4

.) This image relates to 'modeling the way' in sharing a common topic of leaders keeping their values close to them, while also sharing those values with other people. In 'Model the Way', it talks about how others will be confused with following you if you don't share your values clearly, and it also gives an unclear message to what you are actually leading towards. Image #4 implies the same thing.

.) I think there is a gap between what we say and what we do for many reasons, like people being scared of what they are saying to be wrong. They might not act on what they say until someone else does to make sure that it works. The gap could also be there because individuals might be unconfident so they decide to simply not act upon it. To avoid hypocrisy, I would invite others to share if they think the program is moving towards where they think it is because just saying 'I'm going to do this!' doesn't really get you anywhere. I'd also do my best to take action upon things when they come up.

.) I think it takes the ability to stay true to your word that you tell yourself and others to keep to your values. Really just staying true to yourself period.

.) In high school, I would spend a lot of time around the students with disabilities as a peer mentor or TA, and I learned that setting the tone of the room, like making the atmosphere of the room warm and welcoming, really helped to move everything forward. The daily goals were always said, and everyone was always mindful of them so it felt like they were all working towards them. This was very successful.

.) I think that working with that class so much really helped me find my values and hold them close to myself, but I don't really consider it a time where I could have been a 'thermostat'. To be honest, I don't really know if there's been a time where I've been a thermostat, but I know that I'm still finding my values and what I really want out of life. I've shared values with others by opening other's eyes to the possibilities of those with disabilities, even if it was a student in the program themselves or another general education student.
